Welcome to the Stockdog Ranch. My name is Anna
Guthrie and I have been raising and training working border collies for
the past 15+ years. My training facility is located in southern
California. I work with students and their
border collies, helping those students train their dogs for a variety of
goals: some people need their dog to assist them in their livestock
operations, some people plan to compete, or
TRIAL with their dog, and
others just simply like to learn a new skill with their dog.

I am located in northern San Diego county, on a 500+ acre
ranch. I keep a flock of Dorper and Dorper cross sheep, as well as a handful of
calves for training the dogs. I have a round pen for starting dogs and 100 acres
of various
pastures of various sizes, plus 120 acres of rangeland, which allows me to
create a variety of working situations for dogs and handlers of all levels.
My emphasis is on training the working-bred dog to do practical,
everyday jobs with livestock. I will occasionally take in an outside dog
for training for 30 or 60 days, and sometimes I have what I refer to as
a a "project dog" - a pup that I am starting and training up to sell as a
working dog to a ranch.
While I start all dogs on sheep, my own preference is for cattle. I
compete with my dogs at USBCHA cattle trials, and have been a
regular competitor at the National Cattle Finals for a number of years. My dogs
are all bred to work cattle; however, they work sheep and goats readily,
too.
Often, people will want to bring out a dog that is one of the other
"herding breeds," or is a mix of those breeds. At one time, I did work
with the other "herding breeds," but at this time I am only working with
border collies.
